Pearl Harbor Short Story 3

Milo

The early sun rises when I hear Kristy groan.

“Kristy?”  I asked. She didn’t answer, she probably had a bad dream. I went back to sleep when I got urged from something.

“Milo?”  Kristy asked.

“Yeah? What’s up Kristy?”  I asked.

“Oh good, you’re awake.” she said.

“Yup, I’m awake.”  I said.

“Hey Milo, um I wanted to say thank you for finding me.”  Kristy said.

“Kristy, you never need to thank me, I’m your best friend.”  I replied. She really didn’t have to. It’s like the universe set us up.

“Kristy,”  I said, “I have always loved you from our 5th year of friendship, I want you to know that I am always here for you.”  It felt awkward, but it felt like the right thing to do.

“I know that,” She said. “I’m here to say the same thing.”

We didn’t talk for a while until we saw… something underwater. I  started shaking Kristy that something was underwater. She saw it. It was… huge. We tried to swim away, but it was attracted to us. We thought if we stayed still, we would most likely not die. There was a 0.0000000000000000000001% chance that we were going to live. The big animal came opening its mouth inches away from me and Kristy. We. Were. Lucky. The shark had missed us and swam away in the big blue sea. It’s the afternoon and soon it becomes night. Soon enough, it’s the next day.

Kristy

I guess I’m living the worst terrible life. Except for the fact my best friend came to save me, but everything else is the worst. Being on that island was rough. Learning how to up my game to live on that island was really hard. I learned to make a fire for my bonfire and an easier way to catch fish. I made a hammock out of banana leaves and made it pretty comfortable. After learning tricks, life was easy, but not satisfying. It’s Day 2 without food and I’m starving. Milo’s stomach is growling so loudly, I wonder how we’ll survive. I remembered  a trick to help us get fish. I made a whistling sound. While I was on the island, I  saw dolphins that kept on getting fish. I made a whistling sound that the dolphins liked. They helped me a lot. I learned that the dolphins were somewhere between far and near the island. We were near and far to the island. The whistling sound actually worked!  The dolphins showed up and recognized me! Milo was certainly confused, but little did he know, we were getting food. The dolphins came and gave 2 fish. I gave one to Milo. He didn’t want to. I didn’t either but this is the only way to eat if we wanted to survive. When we were about to eat, the dolphins let us sit on them to eat!  We finished our lunch in a few minutes and it was actually good.  Then we floated like we did for the last few days. Then Milo asked something.

“Kristy?” Milo asked.

“Yes?”  I replied.

“Tell me… the time you escaped.”  He said.

I was silent. I didn’t know what to say. I took a deep breath and started my story.

“The day I almost died. I  ran just in time before the building completely collapsed. I got a few scrapes and bruises, but I was ok. The Japanese kept throwing the bombs in the area. There was no way I was going to escape. I saw the boat and took it. I found an island nearby and thought I could stay for a while. I slept on the island that night, but the next day the boat just… disappeared. I was stranded on an island. I never wanted to, but to live, I had to. And that’s the story.” I finished.

He stayed silent after that. And it was like that for the rest of the day.

Milo

Kristy. Is. Smart. We got food because of her and she told me her story. Finally, I know what happened. The same thing happened today, we got some food, talked and slept. That’s our routine now.

1 week later…

Milo

We got help!  In Hawaii (if you don’t know) we have whales that migrate from Alaska for a few months. They do this so they can give birth or they come here to train their babies because they have less elevation here. It is around late-spring so they do migrate back now. We saw a whale on the way. It absolutely didn’t understand us, but I think we understood the whale’s story. It had scars and it seemed like it just came to live a peaceful life. It had a calf, it was adorable and that mother was willing to help us. We got on her back and went to Hawaii.

Kristy

We just woke up. The mother was swimming near the surface so we could breathe. I.  Could. See. Land. It was really faint but I was excited that I couldn’t contain my excitement. It took so long just to get there (It took 30 minutes), Milo and I thanked the mother whale and ran. We ran all the way to my house thinking of everything we could do after seeing my parents. Like, seeing Colonel Ernesto and telling him some of his motivational skills helped me live (They really did) and meet everyone else. It just started raining and that made me glad. Just a few more steps till I reach the doorstep. I reached it. I knocked on the door and my parents opened the door.

“Mom? Dad”
